Avatar
Do you see that ruffled, haggard artist stumbling into Continuity, bleary-eyed, clutching Batman pages to hand in… simply so that he can get to the movie theater early Saturday morning to watch Avatar… in that spot in the theater with those restricting bars that he can put his feet on, lean back on that soft seat, mocha coffee in hand, and glom onto AVATAR. Will it be great? Was Titanic great? Was Aliens great? Terminator… one AND two? Great? Yes!
That’s Neal, and his mind is buzzing with thoughts of JIM CAMERON’S TOYS.

See, see, his eyes just rolled up and that giddy grin stretched across his face.
Joel showed him “the making of” and for 15 minutes, Joel said Neal kept mumble-talking about it. “Did you see those painted dots on their faces? Oh God. Their cameras pick up those dots. I’ll bet there’s like no ‘clean up.’ Wow.” (Neal has just installed his second set of 10 motion capture cameras in his 15th floor motion capture studio.)
He’ll be better by Monday. Meanwhile, check out the preview.

New as new can be.
I can show you a few pieces of experimental work that we are currently preparing for our documentary clients.
It’s a mixed media approach using drawings, animation effects, film type treatment and tricks to create an exciting form of graphic story-telling of a time and place that cameras were never able to record.
It’s a STEPPING UP of our new graphic form.
If you’re a strict comic super hero fan… hey we’re there.
But:
This is different… and just as exciting.

I just gotta say here… the collaboration of Brian Michael Bendis and the incredible Alex Maleev on “Spiderwoman,” and the work by Motherland, done at Marvel is a mind opener and an eye opener. Don’t blink… because this is one of the techniques for the future.

So I just did a stupid thing.
Was it stupid? You decide!
I interrupted my work on Batman to do a cover for Next Wave.
Dumb??
So why did I do it?
Cause I’m stupid!
On the other hand… (we have five fingers)
No, no… on the other hand… it’s Doc Savage… Will Eisner’s Spirit… and “Year One’s” Batman.
It was a fan-ish thing to do.
Thing is, if it helps to sell copies of the book (and it will)… that cover won’t earn a royalty for me at all. So… why did I do it?
Dumb!
Anyway, the family’s agreed if we can get a really good price for the original, we’ll sell it, and make up the royalty.

Heh, heh, not so stupid.
